Very nice. Thanks!
I'm getting a "file not found" error after completing the download. I've tried re-downloading it a couple times and it's the same. Anyone else have this issue? I tried downloading another torrent off this site and it worked fine.
@WaffleTiger that is a classic error when the file path/name is too long. Rename the file and/or folder and you will see that it works eventually.
Always remember to send your files back to your Desktop, or from the root of your hard drive, this will already avoid such problems ;) Thx Puff for sharing!
This filename set a record for obnoxious length.
Thanks for the advice! Changing the folder name did the trick. LoL yea...the title is almost reaching the length of an isekai novel's. ;P Also, I really want to thank you Puff, for your continued service in preserving the quality of all this hentai. It's really appreciated. I used to pay for membership at hanime and came to really dislike how they ruined the artistic integrity of their releases with their "HD" upscales. Not only do you find great sources for your releases, you also go above and beyond to fix certain scenes. Really, thank you very much. If I may make a request or a query, do you plan to release older T-Rex titles? I ask because you seem to be fond of them and they happen to be my favorite hentai studio. Also many of their older titles happen to be better animated in my opinion. On another note though, studio Seven from Pink Pineapple is also usually pretty great! ;)
It's something I've been thinking of doing. I will probably wind up putting out re-encodes that fix issues present in erokuni's + hikoko123's rips as I can't afford to buy all those DVDs myself. Erokuni's/velka's rips are okay, but they almost always have the wrong framerate/poor IVTC and they don't fix the jagged lineart issues at all that are present in more than half of T-Rex titles. Quite a few of the DVDs are broken though and can't be fixed completely as they have some kind of strange conversion blending that can't be handled by any tools available in avisynth. Edit: Unfortunately the older SD WEB versions use the same broken master video files as those broken DVDs. I've bought a couple of them to check and they have the same blending issues, so using WEB for those is not viable.
@Puff I recommend just keeping the English filename in your future releases. (ex: Tenioha! 2 Nee, Motto Ecchi na Koto Ippai Shiyo The Animation [2019][720p-HEVC-WEBRip]) Including both English and Japanese filenames is unnecessary, and will risk creating more "path too long" errors like this.
Thank you for the response Puff. I didn't realize even the physical releases and master files had so many issues. I wonder though, is there a reason why hentai specifically is so behind the times when it comes to providing HD content? I mean, even 720p has been a technology available for over what, two decades now? I understand hentai isn't exactly the most profitable endeavor, in fact quite the opposite, with the demise of so many studios over the years, which leaves us with only a select few now. We've been fortunate to get more HD content over the past few years, but it seems like the industry lags far behind other types of video content. I mean, even a decade or two ago, I'm guessing the content was all produced at a high resolution, but due to cost cutting maneuvers and mismanagement, we ended up with low quality encodes and broken master files.
@Dias_Flac That'd be no fun. @WaffleTiger DVDs are still likely majority of H-Anime profit, so they probably see no point in dipping into other markets and they probably have little to no idea what they're doing due to "work traditions", "outdated management" or whatever other nonsense. Pink Pineapple in particular is pretty clueless as they claim their HD stuff is encoded in h264, but you can inspect their drm video files with mediainfo and they're clearly WMV3 (or worse, in some cases) and they use a shitty silverlight-based drm player that actually can't output smooth frames properly, so they barely have an understanding of what they're actually doing. DMM seems more technologically competent as they're offering actual h264 shit and their new drm video player doesn't use the shitty silverlight. Then, there's WEB-DL platforms like DLSITE. Those are great, but again the files are encoded in the wrong framerate and need to be decimated for smooth playback, which requires a re-encode or use of a decimator on playback. I'd say all of T-Rex titles are animated at 540p (and still are), while a few of their older series seem to be randomly animated at a lower resolution than that (probably 400p or something like that.) I think only some of Pink Pineapple's stuff is actually drawn at industry standard "real HD resolutions. I haven't really looked into much of how hentai production works, but I assume BUNNYWALKER (T-Rex) isn't funded by anyone and they're likely profitable enough to go infinite because of the shorter episode business model they use. Those old studios that "shut-down" were likely funded by companies or even the government in some cases and simply lost funding. I'm sure some of the fellas in the discord know more about that kind of stuff as it has been a topic of discussion in there sometimes.
Then there's the issue with the barely existing h-anime community that creates the "low quality encodes". The low quality encodes in hikoko123's case are a result of the sharpening plus whatever other filters he applies to them which amplifies any issues in the source. They would look okay if he didn't filter them in such a way. The way he handles the DVDs is also dated as well with regards to the VFR IVTC, which is beyond pointless. Something else he does fucks up the edges of the videos, causing a weird edge bleeding/peeling effect that is more noticeable in panning scenes, but I'm not sure what ancient software he's using that introduces that. He's basically a lost cause though as people pointed that stuff out years ago when he first started to filter them like that. The DVDs themselves are fine usually nowadays and probably won't have major mastering issues, but the problem is that there is very few people that can do proper, modern rips. I would say Erokuni's rips weren't a wasted effort (back when he did them) because they are at least better than hikoko123's rips, even though they had issues. The only lads that do actual good DVDRips are from pornolab.
H-Anime ripping is an expensive hobby. I'm sure if people actually pooled their resources we could get good DVDRips out more quickly, but majority of the h-anime community is just leechers that are content with hikoko123's awful rips. The good rippers that exist on pornolab seem to be buying stuff out of their own pocket for the most part, which isn't very efficient. I could be wrong about that though, as I don't speak Russian and I'm not in their discords or anything. The main issue this community faces is lack of joining forces. Just recently I contacted the guy from muchohentai that ripped Tonari no Ie no Anette-san The Animation from Pink Pineapple and offered to fix the video for him/the community, but I got no response. I understand how the silverlight video player serves frames, so I can fix those videos from being a stuttery mess. So instead, I have to buy that title myself (with monetary support from others) to get a good rip out and his effort is essentially wasted with the raw he released. I also contacted the chinese guys that ripped WEB stuff like this in the past and offered to fix their stuff up, but received no response. Fortunately, in my case with these new WEBRips a few people have reached out to me and offered their monetary support. I wouldn't be able to afford all of these titles without their help. They may be a bit cheaper than retail DVDs, but they're still quite taxing on the wallet especially now that BUNNYWALKER is putting out 2 episodes per month. So a big thanks to these lads for their support! This has been another friendly wall of text from me :)
I enjoyed reading that wall of text. It was enlightening, so thank you very much! It's a shame the industry and the community are in their current states, but I'm truly glad people such as yourself have taken up the banner to preserve, in a way, animation history. Where can we reach out with monetary support if the need arises again? One more question if I may. The "HD" upscales that hanime does, is that done with waifu2x or some other program like it? I can see the merit of it (more so for static images I'm guessing), if it didn't completely change color tones and wash out some details.
You could join the discord I link in release posts and message me there if you want to help out. In hanime's upscales they probably used a combination of warpsharp (which alters lineart to be thinner while sharpening it) + they probably used some kind of denoiser + debanding with strong settings that washed out the details a tad much. I don't know if waifu2x causes detail loss that significant as it's not something I've been interested in myself, but probably not based on the comparisons I looked at for waifu2x meme stuff recently. Warpsharp in particular probably isn't the best solution when trying to "fix" hikoko123's stuff especially when it was already sharpened so much in the first place by hikoko123.
Glad to hear you might be doing reencodes on hikiko Puff, especially since I found out recently that velka might not be coming back. Do you think you'd end up doing the loli stuff from Mary Jane?
Mary Jane is a studio I appreciate, but the super young girl stuff isn't really a priority as I don't consume that genre. Perhaps once I finalize workflow and I start to churn stuff out I could do that, but that won't be for a little while.
Sounds awesome, I'll definitely be keeping up with the stuff you release either way. Kinomoto Natsumi and the New Generation studio that made those have also been releasing much more mainstream, equally excellent titles lately like Lovely and Kimi Omou Koi, BTW, does Mary Jane release any improved WEB versions? Or are the brands you've been working on (Pink Pineapple, Bunny Walker, Edge) the only ones in the industry?
Those are the only bigger labels that do HD WEB stuff plus a few other smaller/newer labels. Every other more known label only offers their stuff in SD 720x404 resolution. Basically almost as good as DVD quality, so they're probably a better alternative to hikoko123's rips. Mary Jane is slow as heck to get their stuff up on WEB services though as Kimi Omou Koi episode 1 just got uploaded only recently.
Wow, they all managed to have the WEB version market offer even lower-than-DVD resolution! But that does sound better than hikiko (since I'm sure you're familiar enough to judge the encodes of those DVD WEB releases as not total crap). Makes it even stranger then how hikiko has been generally the only non-velka source we've seen for all these years. Of course these WEB versions could have started last year for all I know, it wouldn't entirely surprise me.
It's an expensive hobby to get into is probably why. There are plenty of better rips that come out eventually, but having someone that lives in Japan to get them ripped asap rather than import them is probably the main issue.
@Puff I recommend just keeping the English (or Romaji) filename in your future releases, some titles are too long and can produce path length errors. ;) thanks for sharing!
Give me more wall of text about this type of thing.
